Mt Waverley's Best Kept Secret: Syndal South Primary School

School Council.

Syndal South Primary School Council

The school council is made up of ten elected parents of the school, four elected teachers and the school principal. Other parents of the school are also welcome to attend as observers.

Serving on school council is a great way to get to know other families and to contribute to the running and organisation of the school. Meetings are held monthly.

A school council:

  • determines the educational policy of the school within guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD)
  • ensures the buildings and grounds are kept in a good state of repair
  • considers extensions/improvements to buildings and grounds
  • provides for cleaning and sanitation
  • draws up an annual financial budget of proposed expenditure
  • monitors expenditure of the school’s money
  • stimulates interest in the school
  • makes sure accounts are kept as directed by DEECD and publishes an audited statement of receipts and payments each year
  • conducts a public meeting each year to report on its activities to the school community
  • publishes an annual report
  • either directly, or through powers delegated to the School Council by the Chief Executive, is the employer of any employees at the school other than teachers

Sub-committees of School Council

Our council has a number of committees that work to oversee or provide support to the school. If you are interested in joining a committee or finding out more please contact the school on 98025277.

Our school has the following committees:

  • Education
  • Finance
  • Community Relations and Marketing
  • Facilities Committee
  • Fundraising/Fete
  • Out of School Hours Care

Community Relations and Marketing

Our Fundraising team aims to both hold community events and raise much needed funds for our school. The fundraising team came together in 2012 to further provide support to the school. It was born out of the 2011 Fete committee. This year Fundraising have held a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, a Father’s Day Breakfast, a Trivia night and are currently selling tickets for the major raffle. There will also be end of year events and hampers.

Having undertaken two successful Fetes in the last three years the school has been able to add to the physical environment from the funds raised. We now have new play equipment, designed and overseen by our Student Representative Council and a large new synthetic playing surface between our main two buildings. In 2013 we will be holding our bi-annual Fete in Term 4. We look forward to your continued support.

Out of School Hours Care

School council is responsible for the oversight of our Out of School Hours Care program. The committee consists of parents and staff and work together to support our coodinator and her staff to provide a high quality program for our students. We are proudly a community owned service, not aiming to make a profit but aiming to support our families with their care needs.

Annual Report to School Community

Each year the school completes an Annual Report to the School Community – it is presented to the March School Council meeting for ratification. All families have been sent a copy, you can download a copy by clicking this link.
